Houston got a terrific game from shortstop Jerry Duersch. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Baltimore, 8-5, in 10 innings. Duersch went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Baltimore is now 76-76, while Houston is 90-62.

Baltimore used the timely hitting of Woodie Scheideler to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Lords on top, 7-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

Baltimore manager Steve Read was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys went out there and put good wood on the ball," he said.
