Empires Tag Hurons with 5-3 Loss
|
New York and Toronto duked it out and the Empires came out victorious.
The New York Empires picked up a win at Dominion Field, knocking off the Toronto Hurons, 5-3. Starting pitcher Jon Pierce was a big reason why. The winning pitcher was Pierce, now 15-11. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 7.
Lowell Bickle hit a 2-run triple off Joe Scott in the top of the third, which put the Empires in front, 2-1. Bickle had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5.
"Jon kept his poise and got the job done," said New York manager John Harris. "He was outstanding."
With the win, New York pushed its record to 80-72.
