Dave Helms did all he could to help his team prevail. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the New York Empires from losing the game, 7-6, to the Toronto Hurons in 11 innings at Dominion Field. Helms went 1 for 1 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Ron Haney, 8-8, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. With the win, Toronto has a record of 63-89. New York falls to 80-73.

The Hurons got a clutch hit from pinch hitter Felipe Chavez. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Hurons.

"This game tested our mettle," said Chavez.
