Quakers Turn Back Milwaukee, 3-1
|
Philadelphia Quakers starter Mel Hartman turned in a top-notch performance against the Milwaukee Dairymen at Milwaukee Municipal Stadium. The result was a win for the Quakers, 3-1. In 7.1 innings, Hartman surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. With the win, Philadelphia raised its record to 79-75.
Philadelphia used a well-timed hit by Ted Schlener to capture the win. The center fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Quakers ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Schlener, "one at-bat at a time."
