Lords Earn Clutch Win, 3-2
|
Baltimore turned a good effort from starter Nate Summers into a win over the New York Empires at Seton Hill Stadium. The Lords won the game, 3-2. Denny Boyd came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now stands at 12-11. The last-place Lords improved to 69-86.
Had George Kiss not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Kiss hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Lords.
New York manager Jose Placeholder said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
