In a low-scoring contest between the New York Empires and the Boston Terriers, Larry Stanford was the X factor. The New York left-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. There was more than one reason the Empires beat the Terriers, but Stanford's big at-bat in the top of the fourth was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-1 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
