Empires Bridle Terriers, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring contest between the New York Empires and the Boston Terriers, Larry Stanford was the X factor. The New York left-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. Stanford yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2. His record improves to 15-9. With the win, New York pushed its record to 82-73.
There was more than one reason the Empires beat the Terriers, but Stanford's big at-bat in the top of the fourth was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-1 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"Larry was doing a good job pouring in strikes," said New York manager John Harris.
