Knickerbocker Stadium was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.

In a low-scoring contest, Pittsburgh pitcher Ron Winder was marvelous, enabling his team to nab a 1-0 win in 10 innings. Earning the save was John Lonergan. He's now cashed in 3 of 4 save opportunities.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Keith MacPherson? The 25-year old third baseman MacPherson stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put Pittsburgh up, 1-0. For the game, he was 3 for 5, including 1 double and 2 singles.

"It was a test of wills," said Vincent Wicker, the Pittsburgh skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."

Pittsburgh improves to 92-64 with the win. They lead their division by 7½ games.
