Los Angeles Defeated By Drillers, 3-2
|
The umbrellas came out during the Houston-Los Angeles contest at Sam Houston Field.
Houston Drillers starter Tom McAteer turned in a sparkling performance against the Los Angeles Pobladores, leading his team to a 3-2 win. McAteer yielded 2 runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 7, and struck out 6. His record improves to 17-12. Larry Bilski, who is tied for 2nd in the ABL with a 7.6 K/9 rate, nailed down the save.
Mike Lockhart had a big solo home run for the Drillers in the bottom of the third inning. With Houston leading 2-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a cutter from Bob Powell, who is tied for 10th in the ABL with a 5.9 K/9 rate, and punished it. The result was his 11th home run of the season, which put the Drillers on top, 3-0.
In postgame remarks, Lockhart hailed his team's "single-minded determination."
With the win, Houston goes to 85-71, while the Pobladores fall to 82-73.
