Pobladores Capture Close Win
|
With left fielder Paul McCarthy leading the charge, the Los Angeles Pobladores defeated the San Francisco Seagulls, 5-4, at Mission Field. McCarthy, who is a two-time All-Star, went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Bill Avina, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities. With the win, Los Angeles pushed its record to 83-74.
Had Buddy Bursley not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Bursley hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Pobladores.
"Not to put too fine a point on it," said McCarthy, "but we really needed that win."
