Simmons goes 3-for-3 in Wranglers Win
The Dallas Wranglers defeated the Houston Drillers, 9-6. First Baseman Duane Simmons deserved a large share of the credit. Simmons went 3-3 with 3 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times for the Wranglers. The winning pitcher was 1962 Rookie of the Year Award winner Charlie Sokol. He tossed 107 pitches over 6 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits. Frank Dunn, who led the ABL in saves with 26 in 1971, nailed down the save.

Dallas relied on the hitting of Pat Simmons to pick up the win. The left fielder ripped a 2-run triple in the top of the third inning to put the Wranglers on top, 4-1. For the game, Simmons had 1 triple and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"Our approach was just to try to see something over the plate and be aggressive," Simmons told the Dallas Observer.

The victory gives Dallas a record of 82-75.
