The Generals grabbed a win, 6-2, at Queens Field, overcoming a fine effort from New York pitcher Jon Pierce. Pierce went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Ron Winder was credited with the save, his 20th in 28 tries. By defeating New York, the 4th-place Generals improved to 76-81.
Atlanta left fielder Mike McRae contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the eighth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 28th hit of the season and put the Generals ahead, 4-2.
McRae attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
