Traders Jolt Explorers, 7-4, with Late Rally
|
The home team gave the crowd at Union Field something to cheer about.
The Chicago Traders took St. Louis pitcher Harlan Estes's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Union Field. The final score had Chicago getting past the Explorers, 7-4. Estes went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 9. The winner in relief was Jimmy Calhoun. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 9-5.
Chicago took a 7-4 lead on John Sledd's 10th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which Sledd hit in the bottom of the eighth, left St. Louis pitcher Dick Lott visibly frustrated.
"This was a nice win for us," said Sledd. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
The win lifted the Chicago record to 93-65.
