Generals Capture Close Win
|
The Atlanta Generals beat the Detroit Wolverines, 5-4, at Atlantic Station Field. The Generals got a fine performance from left fielder Ed Mika, who went 2-3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. The Wolverines fall to 7-9 and continue their sputtering start to the 1971 season.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 11th. With one out, Mika hit a sinker from Chuck Porter for a solo home run. The Generals, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"Big win," said Mika.
