Empires Pocket 9-3 Win Against Boston
|
The New York Empires trumped the Boston Terriers, 9-3, at Atlantic Avenue Grounds. New York catcher Eddie Ellison was terrific. He was 2-5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Jon Pierce earned the win for New York. He lasted 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 2-1. So far, the 1974 season has been disappointing for Boston, now 5-10.
Rick Lintner, who is tied for 3rd in the ABL in total bases with 37, helped out the New York cause in the top of the third inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the third baseman went 1-4 with a walk.
"The bar for us is not a particular opponent, it's ourselves," said New York manager Dan Whiting.
