Wolverines Stay Hot With 4-2 Win
|
Thanks in large part to third baseman Duane Simmons, the Detroit Wolverines beat the Baltimore Lords, 4-2. Simmons was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times. The winning pitcher was Scott Litwak. He tossed 111 pitches over 7.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 9 hits. Bill Kaiser nailed down his 1st save.
Pete Morrison had a big 2-run double for the Wolverines in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Detroit leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from Kenny Wilson, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1971 draft, and swatted a double to left. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Wolverines ahead, 4-1.
"We're in some kind of groove right now," said Morrison.
The Wolverines, now 13-3, have played inspired baseball.
