Parker Rips 2 Home Runs in 5-1 Empires Triumph
|
The New York Empires defeated the Detroit Wolverines, 5-1. Doing his part was center fielder Jerry Parker, who was 4 for 4 with 2 home runs and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Jimmy Bell got the win, improving to 11-6. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 8 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 1. With the win, the Empires have a record of 80-79.
New York grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Parker hit a 2-run home run. His 15th home run of the season put the Empires out in front, 3-1.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Parker.
