Packers Use Late Score to Top Explorers, 2-1
|
Cincinnati pitcher John Stoddard did his part in helping his team defeat the St. Louis Explorers, 2-1. The opposition could never get too much going against the left-hander. Brian Alfieri was credited with the save, his 5th in 6 tries. The win makes Cincinnati 69-91.
Cincinnati took a 2-1 lead on Doug Stewart's 32nd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Stewart hit in the bottom of the eighth, left St. Louis pitcher Marty Clark visibly frustrated.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Stewart told the Cincinnati Citizen.
