Wolverines Win Squeaker, 2-1, Over Terriers
|
The Detroit Wolverines earned a close win over the Boston Terriers, thanks in part to Jim Bryant. The Detroit right-hander, who finished 5th in the ABL in innings pitched with 255.2 in 1967, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. In 8 innings, Bryant surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Paul Carter converted his 16th save in 19 tries.
Detroit used a timely hit from John Starr to get the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Wolverines ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"This was a nice win for us," said Starr. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
Detroit goes to 100-60. The win puts them 7 games up in their division.
