Quakers Win, 8-2, Extend Hot Streak
|
The Philadelphia Quakers topped the New York Knickerbockers, 8-2, in National Baseball League action at Quakers Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Philadelphia pitcher and Chicago, Illinois, native Fred Harrison. Harrison yielded 2 runs over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 2-1. The win brings the Quakers to 10-7, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
Fred Johnson, who is a three-time All-Star, chipped in a 3-run home run for Philadelphia in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the catcher had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 4 RBI.
"I was able to change speeds effectively tonight," said Harrison.
