Blockbusters Beat St. Louis, 3-2
|
Los Angeles pitcher Larry Messenger had a large part in his team beating the St. Louis Explorers, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Messenger, who is tied for 5th in the NBL in innings pitched with 31.1, went the distance for Los Angeles. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. The loss makes St. Louis 8-9.
Harvey Katzen, who finished 2nd in the NBL in triples with 14 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Katzen contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Los Angeles up, 3-2.
"I had my mind made up to go the distance," said Messenger.
