Wolverines Stun Terriers, 6-4
|
The Detroit Wolverines beat the Boston Terriers, 6-4, at Wolverine Field. Detroit right fielder Pete Morrison had an outstanding performance. He went 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. Detroit reliever Brian Long picked up the win, upping his record to 2-4. Tim Jepperson absorbed the loss. The first-place Wolverines, at 94-67, lead the American Baseball League Eastern Division by 7½ games.
The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With Detroit trailing 4-3, Morrison jumped on a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Tim Jepperson and hit a 3-run home run to left. With one swing, the Wolverines had a walk-off win.
"What a buzz," said Morrison after it was over.
