Hurons Lose to Empires, 7-4
|
The New York Empires downed the Toronto Hurons, 7-4. The hitting star was left fielder Dave Martin. Martin went 4 for 5 with 4 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Empires. Dennis McAteer picked up the win, improving his season record to 9-14. He struck out 4 in 6.1 innings. Chuck Hinck recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 31 for 33.
Irv Olson had a big bases-clearing double for the Empires in the bottom of the third inning. With New York leading 3-1 and the bases loaded, he got a sinker from Larry Haines and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 17th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Empires ahead, 6-1.
"Anything I can do to help the team win," said Martin.
The winning streak has now reached 4 games for New York.
