Packers Sunk by Eagles
|
The Washington Eagles got a good effort from starter Alex Fonseca in defeating the Cincinnati Packers at Monument Field. The final score was 7-2. Fonseca, who leads the NBL in innings pitched with 34.0, went the distance for Washington. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits. Washington, now 11-6, has gotten their season off to a good start.
Lee McGee had a big run-scoring double for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Fernando Lopez, who finished 2nd in the NBL in innings pitched with 282.2 in 1967, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 2-0.
"Winning is all that really matters and we got it done today," McGee told the Washington Gazette.
