Packers Handed 6-2 Loss by Brooklyn
|
Behind an impressive start by Dick Conway, Brooklyn beat Cincinnati, 6-2. In 9 innings, Conway surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. The win has Brooklyn at 7-10.
Tom Austin had a big 3-run home run for the Bluebirds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Brooklyn leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from former first round draft pick Dave Young and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Bluebirds on top, 6-1.
"Dick pitched like a son-of-a-gun," said Brooklyn manager John Meeker.
