Pittsburgh Upended, 4-1, by Philadelphia
|
Bob Freeland pitched a gem to lead Philadelphia to victory over the Pittsburgh Industrials, 4-1. The winner was Freeland. He threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Gene Steinhauer. Bill Smith earned the save, his 8th in 10 tries.
Ted Schlener, who is tied for 7th in the NBL in doubles with 35, had a direct impact on the outcome. Schlener contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Philadelphia up, 3-1.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Schlener told the Philadelphia Bulletin.
The Quakers, at 92-70, have now won 4 straight.
