Lords Squeeze Out Win in Pitching Duel
|
Baltimore and Atlanta duked it out and the Lords came out victorious.
The Baltimore Lords eked out a 1-0 win versus the Atlanta Generals at Seton Hill Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Larry Diego. He was terrific. Diego, now 13-10, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Denny Boyd nailed down his 11th save.
Had Larry Merritt not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Merritt hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Lords.
"We put together a nice win," Merritt said.
Baltimore has 3 straight wins, Atlanta 3 straight losses.
