The New York Empires picked up a win at Queens Field, dropping the Montreal Habitants, 4-3, in 13 innings. Jon Pierce, who finished 3rd in the ABL in ERA with 2.30 in 1970, was the difference-maker. Bruce Shone, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1964 draft, was the winner in relief. His record is now 6-3. The losing pitcher was Eric Roe. The Empires now own a record of 77-84.

New York got a knockout punch from Buzz Deakins. The left fielder hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the 13th inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"This place was electric at the end," Deakins said.
