Empires Deal Hurons 6-2 Defeat
|
New York and Toronto took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
The New York Empires rode a solid performance from 23-year-old starting pitcher Larry Stanford to a win, beating the Toronto Hurons, 6-2, at Dominion Field. The Empires, at 86-76, have now won 4 straight.
Danny Bueno had a big 2-run home run for the Empires in the top of the sixth inning. With New York leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a slider from former first round draft pick Larry Haines and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Empires on top, 4-0.
"The bar for us is not a particular opponent, it's ourselves," said New York manager Jason Jung.
