Detroit got a strong outing from Juan Rodriguez as the Wolverines defeated the Houston Drillers, 4-1, at Sam Houston Field. The Drillers drop to 7-10, as their stumbling start to the 1972 season continues.

Detroit used the hitting of Jerry Plumley to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Wolverines on top, 4-1. For the game, Plumley had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.

"Bottom line," said Houston skipper Steven Palps, "we didn't play well enough to win."
