Combs on Fire, Strikes out 15 Lords
|
Everything was working for Frank Combs at Atlantic Station Field. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The slider was working.
In an unforgettable performance, the 23-year-old Combs fanned 15 Lords and sparked the 7-1 Atlanta Generals victory over Baltimore. He left Lords hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it.
"I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Atlanta manager Philipe Yazzie. "His location and command were really something."
In addition to collecting 15 strikeouts over 9 innings, Combs allowed 5 hits and 1 walk in a superlative outing.
"I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Combs said with a smile.
