Empires Use Late Score to Top Generals, 4-3

The New York Empires picked up a win at Atlantic Station Field, topping the Atlanta Generals, 4-3. On the mound for New York was left-hander Larry Stanford. He played a principal role in the triumph. The loss drops the Atlanta record to a disappointing 6-11.
New York used the timely hitting of Eddie Ellison to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Empires on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Ellison called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
