Empires Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Terriers, 5-2
|
New York Empires starter Jon Pierce was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Boston Terriers, 5-2. Jack Pratt, who finished 4th in the ABL in saves with 23 in 1974, picked up the win in relief. Bill Falcon took the loss for Boston. Early on, the Empires, at 12-4, have excelled.
Had Tom Glenn not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Glenn hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Empires.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Glenn said after the game.
