Packers Pick Up 6-4 Win Against New York
|
The Cincinnati Packers weathered an outstanding game by New York second baseman Steve Wright to topple the Knickerbockers, 6-4. Wright went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Erv Koenig was the winning pitcher. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 8 hits, with 6 walks and 6 strikeouts. The loss has the Knickerbockers at 12-6.
The Packers got a big at-bat from left fielder Glenn Palmer. For the game, Palmer was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Cincinnati a 2-1 lead.
"Big team win," Palmer said later.
