Burros Suffer 5-1 Setback
|
The San Diego Captains beat the Denver Burros, 5-1. San Diego pitcher and Los Angeles, California, native Gabe Magana led the way. Magana picked up the win for San Diego, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 2-1. The Captains, now 5-14, have not found much traction so far in 1968.
The Captains got a big at-bat from first baseman John McCallson. For the game, McCallson was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave San Diego a 4-1 lead.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," McCallson said after the game.
