Knickerbockers Defeat Eagles, 8-6
Bob Underwood knocked in 4 runs to help New York beat Washington, 8-6, in 15 innings. Underwood produced 1 single and 1 home run. Sid Shafer, now 3-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. The Knickerbockers, now 14-5, have been playing some good baseball.

The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Ron Palmer came to bat in the top of the 15th. Facing Washington pitcher Don McCoy, he hit a 1-2 splitter for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 8-6.

"Our team showed some spunk," said Palmer.
