The New York Knickerbockers eked out a 1-0 win versus the Philadelphia Quakers at Quakers Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Dave Torre. He was terrific. Torre, now 2-1, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing no runs. Getting the save was Ollie Hundley, his 4th.

New York used the hitting of Francisco Chavez to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put the Knickerbockers on top, 1-0. For the game, Chavez had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.

"We found a way to get it done," Torre said.

New York goes to 10-10.
