Burros Lose Despite Valiant Effort by Bitting
The Milwaukee Dairymen and Denver Burros lit up the scoreboard.

The inspired effort of Denver center fielder Jim Bitting was not enough to prevent a loss, 16-8, to the Milwaukee Dairymen. Bitting was 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Steve Reed, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 2.2 innings of relief. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1.

Milwaukee catcher Charlie Fee contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the eighth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 23rd hit of the season and put the Dairymen ahead, 10-7.

"If you were looking for a pitchers' duel," said Fee, "this wasn't it."

The win puts Milwaukee at 10-10.
