The New York Knickerbockers started the Divisional Round in style, winning on the road against the Denver Burros at Gates Crescent Park by a score of 10-6 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Knickerbockers second baseman Steve Wright excelled. He went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs.

New York used a timely hit from Diego Mateo to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Knickerbockers ahead, 7-6. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.

"We maximized our offense today," said New York skipper Timothy Widholm. "That makes everyone's life easier."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Gates Crescent Park in Denver.
