Drillers Edge Seagulls, 3-2, to Open DR

With second baseman Lou Ward leading the charge, the Houston Drillers got a road win over the San Francisco Seagulls, 3-2, in Game 1 of the Divisional Round. Ward went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once at Mission Field to help Houston take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
A key moment came with two out in the top of the third. That's when Ward hit a cutter from Tim Stambaugh for a 2-run single, putting Houston up, 3-0.
"We busted our tails," said San Francisco manager Al Borie. "But we came up short."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Mission Field in San Francisco.
