Critical Game 5 Goes to Host Traders, 4-2
|
Game 5 was big. So was Skip Crawford.
In leading Chicago to a crucial 4-2 victory over the Cleveland Bobcats at Union Field, the Chicago starter rose to the occasion, tossing 6.2 good innings. Crawford threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball as the Traders defended their home field to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 Divisional Round.
Had Fran Precourt not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Precourt hit a 2-run double. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Traders.
Precourt attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
The next game is set to be played for Tuesday, October 6th , 1970 at Lakefront Stadium in Cleveland.
