Black Deals New York 2-0 Setback
|
Wolverine Field hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
Starting pitcher Larry Black gave the Detroit Wolverines a rock-solid effort. The South Daytona, Florida native helped his team defeat the New York Empires, 2-0, at Wolverine Field. Earning his 3rd save for Detroit was William Matz.
Black, who dominated for Detroit, earned the victory to move to 2-2. He was in control the whole game, scattering 4 hits over 8.2 innings, while striking out 7. New York batters could never bunch up enough hits to produce a rally.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Black. "But I like how we're playing right now."
The win puts Detroit at 12-8.
