Almost There: Detroit On Cusp of DR Triumph After 3-2 Win
The Detroit Wolverines moved to within one game of the League Championship Series, downing the visiting New York Empires at Wolverine Field by a score of 3-2. Wolverines left-hander Juan Rodriguez had a strong outing in which he threw 8.2 innings allowing 2 runs. The win gives the Wolverines a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Divisional Round.

Eddie Estrada aided the Detroit cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the first baseman drove in one run.

"Every loss hurts," said New York manager Dan Whiting. "But this was a tough one."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Wolverine Field in Detroit.
