Diego, Lords Take Dramatic Game 1 for 1-0 Series Lead
|
The Baltimore Lords started the League Championship Series in dramatic fashion, stealing Game 1 from the Houston Drillers in a walk-off in the 11th inning. Baltimore took the 3-2 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter Larry Diego. The right-hander threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball in the win, which gave the Lords a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-7 series.
Batting in the bottom of the 11th, former first round draft pick Mike Sheffield had a real shot to win the game. Houston pitcher Randy Robins was determined not to let it happen. But with no outs, Sheffield hit a run-scoring single. The Lords had a walk-off triumph.
"I like what I saw today," said Baltimore manager Steve Read, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Seton Hill Stadium in Baltimore.
