Down to Defeat Goes Washington, 2-1
|
Damon Rutherford, who led the NBL in ERA with 2.76 in 1958, never let the Eagles get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his slider, to pitch the Packers to a win, 2-1. Kenny Foster earned the save for Cincinnati, his 6th of the year. The win puts Cincinnati at 12-9.
John Hembree, who is tied for 9th in the NBL with a .355 batting average, had a direct impact on the outcome. Hembree contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put Cincinnati up, 2-0.
"Damon gave us a heck of an effort," said Cincinnati manager Martin Abresch.
