Almost There: Houston On Cusp of LCS Triumph After 5-2 Win
The Houston Drillers moved to within one game of the World Series, downing the visiting Detroit Wolverines at Sam Houston Field by a score of 5-2. Drillers right-hander Tom McAteer had a strong outing in which he threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. The win gives the Drillers a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.

Mike Wells had a clutch at-bat with one out in the bottom of the sixth for the Drillers. Coming up with a runner on 1st and Houston trailing 2-1, he hit a 2-run home run.

Houston manager Steven Palps called it "a darn good win."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sam Houston Field in Houston.
