World Series Game 1 Goes to Dallas, Thanks to Coomes
|
Leave it to the veteran.
The Dallas Wranglers got a great start from 34-year-old right-hander Steve Coomes, as Dallas won the contest, 3-2, at Bluff Park. Coomes threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball in the win, which allowed the Wranglers to grab a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Had Don Hughes not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Hughes hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Wranglers.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Hughes, "one at-bat at a time."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Bluff Park in Dallas.
