Bluebirds Use Late Score to Top Eagles, 5-4
|
Brooklyn registered a win at Flatbush Park by beating the Washington Eagles, 5-4. Pitcher Damon Rutherford was one reason why the Bluebirds triumphed. Reliever Bob Hill picked up the win. His record improves to 3-0. Richie Kingery, who is rated as the 56th best prospect by BNN, took the loss. Washington, now 5-16, continues its tough start.
Had Don Calise not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Calise hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Bluebirds.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Calise told the Brooklyn Citizen.
