Soggy conditions did not keep Houston and San Francisco from playing their scheduled game.

San Francisco second baseman Don Johnson had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Johnson went 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2, even as Houston beat the Seagulls, 9-5. Randy Fritz claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2 innings. His record stands at 1-0.

Wade Fields went 1 for 5 for Houston. The 23-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the 12th. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Chuck Porter. It was his 19th RBI of the season.

"Big win," said Fields.

Early on, the Drillers, at 15-6, have excelled.
