Quakers Earn Late Win
|
The Philadelphia Quakers banked on Mel Hartman and he turned in a masterful performance. The right-hander kept the Kansas City hitters in check. The final score was 2-1, Quakers. Hartman, now 4-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Darrell Klug notched his 2nd save of the season.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Alejandro Rebolledo? The 28-year old first baseman Rebolledo stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put Philadelphia up, 2-0. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Tough loss," said Kansas City manager DD Martin. "But we'll learn from it."
The victory makes Philadelphia 14-9, as the team seeks a return to the playoffs in 1972.
