Corte Leads Habitants to 7-2 Win Over Empires
|
The game between Montreal and New York is in the books, despite a little rain.
With shortstop Oscar Corte leading the charge, the Montreal Habitants defeated the New York Empires, 7-2, at LaSalle Stadium. Corte, the 20th overall pick in the 1969 draft, went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Oscar Rodela, the winner, improved to 1-2. He held the Empires to 1 run on 4 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 1.
Montreal pitcher Oscar Rodela contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a sinker to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 2nd hit of the season and put the Habitants ahead, 4-1.
"If we keep hitting the ball well, the wins will pile up," said Montreal skipper Michel Alexandre Cauchon.
With the loss, New York is 10-11.
