Murchison Helps Habitants Win, 5-1, with Pair of Homers
|
Boosted by the 3-hit performance of Jeff Murchison, who finished 3rd in the NBL in slugging percentage with .604 in 1970, the Montreal Habitants defeated the Boston Terriers, 5-1. Don Achber earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. His record is now 1-0. The Terriers fall to 9-12 and continue their wobbly start to the 1977 season.
The game turned with one out in the top of the fourth. That's when Murchison hit a 2-run home run off Joe Clabaugh. It propelled the Habitants into the lead, 2-0.
"No one player deserves all the credit when you win," Murchison said. "And the same is true when you lose."
