The Philadelphia Quakers had to overcome a fine effort from Cleveland pitcher Myron Baird to win, 7-5, at Lakefront Stadium. Baird went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. Philadelphia reliever Jeff Peachtree picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Joe Clabaugh took the loss. The Bobcats fall to 9-13 and continue to sputter in the early going.

Philadelphia used a timely hit from Ted Schlener to get the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Quakers ahead, 7-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Schlener. "But I like how we're playing right now."
