Knickerbockers Tack 8-4 Loss on Philadelphia
|
Spirited fans greeted the Philadelphia Quakers for their clash with the New York Knickerbockers.
The New York Knickerbockers topped the Philadelphia Quakers, 8-4, in National Baseball League action at Quakers Stadium. The standout performance belonged to New York pitcher and Pittsfield, Massachusetts, native Chris Hull. The winning pitcher was Hull, now 4-1. He tossed 5.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 4. Getting the save was Ollie Hundley, his 3rd.
New York used a clutch at-bat from Steve Wells to capture the win. The third baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Knickerbockers ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"I liked his command," said New York manager Timothy Widholm. "Chris was throwing strikes."
New York, now 14-8, has played well in the early going.
