Hurons Need Extra Frames to Get Past Terriers
|
Toronto starter Dan Crumm pitched well against the Boston Terriers at Atlantic Avenue Grounds. The left-hander led his team to a win, 7-3, in 11 innings. The Terriers fall to 7-15 and continue their lackluster start to the 1972 season.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Felipe Chavez came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Boston pitcher Larry Alexander, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Toronto on top, 3-2.
"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Chavez. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
